The wildest creatures can come true! Edie Widder explains about Giants that live under the sea.

TED Blog

There are giants in the ocean, and we can prove it, begins marine biologist Edie Widder on stage at TED. Widder first became involved with TED when she gave a talk on life in the underwater world at Mission Blue in 2010, as part of Sylvia Earle’s TED Prize wish. There she met the late legendary filmmaker Mike DeGruy, who told Widder about his hunt for the giant squid. This piqued Widder’s interest, and thus began her newest journey.

Widder suspected that the reason it was so hard to find the giant squid was the vehicles that were typically being used to hunt them. Common remotely operated underwater vehicles, or ROVs, were simply too loud, and likely scaring a lot of animals away. Widder and her team developed Medusa, a camera platform attached to an optical lure that could be dragged along silently without a thruster or motor. The…

Paramount and Bad Robot have tapped little know but well verse indie director, Julius Onah to helm “God Particle,” one of the more buzzed-about open project in Tinsel Town.
The Sci- fi feature is a $5-10 million budget

For those of you who are science geeks or curiosity seekers of the universe, you might already know about The God Particle. Check the video above that gives a brief detail description.

The Energy Stored in a Gummy Bear

Sid's Thoughts on Science

Yesterday, we performed an experiment with a gummy bear to test how much energy is stored within it. First, we placed potassium chlorate, the most commonly used chlorate in industrial use, into a test tube. Using a torch, we heated the potassium chlorate until it turned into a liquid. After this, we placed the gummy bear inside the test tube. There were hissing sounds and lights as carbon dioxide escaped the test tube into the air.

Below is a video that shows what exactly occured:

The energy stored in a gummy bear.

This experiment demonstrated the significant amount of energy a gummy bear has because of the large amount of sugar present in it.
